Essa Crossley
500 RYT, Therapeutic Yoga Teacher and Certified Bodywork Practitioner

I had a session with Essa, not knowing what to expect from this kind of work. I was thrilled....what Essa does addresses more than a simple yoga practice, although there was that too. Essa made connections for me that I hadn't considered...She is very calming, very confident and knowledgeable. I felt I was in the good hands of someone who understands how spirit/emotion/energy/body are all connected. Which you don't find very often. Thank you Essa!

Vancouver local, Essa found her way on to her mat about 10 years ago. Within her first few visits to the studio she felt that she wanted to be the teacher. Being that she was a young single mom at the time, and working to provide for her son, those thoughts were pushed aside.

Over the course of the next decade Essa felt called to her mat, although the actual focus and dedication she gave it would rise and fall with the tides. A few years ago she started practicing regularly, and soon found her life taking another change of direction, leading her back towards finding her voice as a trained yoga teacher.

Essa completed her foundational training at the Vancouver School of Yoga, located in beautiful Gastown, BC. She has completed 200 hours of Yoga Teacher Training as well as 300 hours in The Foundations of Yoga Therapy. Essa is working towards obtaining her yoga therapy certification with the International Association of Yoga Therapists. She approaches all of her classes from a therapeutic standpoint and offers her students the space to find what feels good in their bodies. Her specialties are Therapeutic Restorative Yoga Series classes and Private Yoga Therapy sessions.

Essa is passionate about sharing her love of this beautiful practice with any and all who are open to receiving. She looks forward to seeing your blissful smiles at the end of a delicious savasana.

Essa recently graduated from the 750 Hour Spa Therapy/Bodywork program at the Vancouver School of Healing Arts (previously the Vancouver School of Bodywork and Massage) and now also offers Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork Mondays and Thursdays by appointment as well as mobile massage at clients homes. She graduated at the top of her class and combines her previous knowledge as a Yoga Therapist with an expanded knowledge of anatomy and physiology, manual therapy techniques and spa services.

Swedish Massage

Classic relaxation massage. Full body massage increases lymph flow, releases tension and contributes to a sense of well-being.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage focuses on realigning the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissues. It is especially helpful for releasing chronic tensions in problem areas such as shoulders, low back stiffness and neck issues from computer overuse or sports activities. Techniques such as muscle stripping, myofascial release, trigger point therapy and more will be utilized along with client participation to achieve the best result.

Foot Reflexology

Refelxology is the method of applying pressure to the reflexes of the foot with the intention of bringing the body back into homeostasis. Sessions will include a full foot treatment with any problem areas being addressed as they arise. The treatment begins with warming foot soak to soften the tissues and increase circulation.

Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage is based on Ayurvedic techniques, involving work on the upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp and face. It helps reduce stress, fatigue, and eyestrain, increase mental clarity, relaxes and rejuvenates the receiver. Custom aromatherapy based on your dosha (Ayurvedic constitution) will be used during the session free of charge.

This modality is offered for 60 minutes only

*Note: Essa Crossley is a Certified Bodywork Practitioner not a Registered Massage Therapist. Your extended health care plan will not reimburse you for your treatment.

Private Yoga Sessions

Our private yoga classes offer a personal and hands-on experience for the student. Essa uses a therapeutic approach to yoga, looking at the person as a whole. She has a comprehensive understanding of the application of myofascial release and yoga techniques to support her client’s healing on all levels of their being – physical, mental, emotional and energetic. This integrated approach covers both eastern and western methodologies including anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, physical assessment skills, breath work and meditation.

Clients will be coached through self-myofascial release techniques in a session designed to assist in correcting postural and alignment issues that cause chronic pain.

Sessions will also include stretching, yoga postures and breathing techniques.  Essa specializes in Restorative Yoga, a style of yoga designed to quiet the participant's nervous system allowing for a relaxed state of calm.
