Essa Crossley, 200 RYT, Therapeutic Yoga Practitioner

I had a session with Essa, not knowing what to expect from this kind of work. I was thrilled....what Essa does addresses more than a simple yoga practice, although there was that too. Essa made connections for me that I hadn't considered...She is very calming, very confident and knowledgeable. I felt I was in the good hands of someone who understands how spirit/emotion/energy/body are all connected. Which you don't find very often. Thank you Essa!

Vancouver local, Essa found her way on to her mat about 10 years ago. Within her first few visits to the studio she felt that she wanted to be the teacher. Being that she was a young single mom at the time, and working to provide for her son, those thoughts were pushed aside.

Over the course of the next decade Essa felt called to her mat, although the actual focus and dedication she gave it would rise and fall with the tides. A few years ago she started practicing regularly, and soon found her life taking another change of direction, leading her back towards finding her voice as a trained yoga teacher.

Essa completed her foundational training at the Vancouver School of Yoga, located in beautiful Gastown, BC. She has completed 200 hours of Yoga Teacher Training as well as 300 hours in The Foundations of Yoga Therapy. Essa is working towards obtaining her yoga therapy certification with the International Association of Yoga Therapists. She approaches all of her classes from a therapeutic standpoint and offers her students the space to find what feels good in their bodies. Her specialties are Restorative Yoga classes and Private Yoga Therapy sessions.

Essa is passionate about sharing her love of this beautiful practice with any and all who are open to receiving. She looks forward to seeing your blissful smiles at the end of a delicious savasana. She teaches all of our yoga classes and offers Yoga Therapy Sessions and Private Yoga Classes to clients by appointment.

About Therapeutic Yoga (Myofascial Movement Therapy)

Therapeutic Yoga offers a holistic approach to physical therapy, looking at the person as a whole. Essa has a comprehensive understanding of the application of yoga techniques to support her client’s healing on all levels of their being – physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and energetic. Essa coaches clients through self-myofascial release techniques to assist clients in a deeper release into yoga postures.

This integrated approach covers both eastern and western methodologies including physical and energetic anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, physical assessment skills, philosophy,  Ayurveda breathing techniques, mudra, mantra, meditation, as wells as various styles of yoga including Yin, Restorative, Hatha and Chair Yoga.

Yoga Therapy bridges the gap between yoga and many other health professions. As its popularity grows, it is becoming widely recognized as an effective and complementary healing art by physiotherapists, chiropractors, psychologists, naturopaths and physicians.

Yoga Therapy is a beautiful and empowering practice that merges Western understanding of anatomy, physiology and mind-body psychology with ancient Eastern Yogic practices. It’s a holistic approach to healing that recognizes the interconnectedness of your emotions, thoughts and body
